Donegal South-West became the first constituency to declare and with a No vote.

Less than a quarter of eligible voters cast a ballot in the constituency and 56% voted against.

Tipperary-South has also declared voting in favour of the proposal.

Here more than 35% turned out to vote and 54% voted Yes.

But the 31st amendment to the Constitution is expected to be carried when a result is announced this afternoon.

Other results are due from around the country and it will be a mixed picture but the referendum will be carried.

Rural votes lean towards No

More rural constituencies are showing stronger No votes.

For example in the Mayo constituency of Enda Kenny the tallies say it looks like 55% Yes, 45% No.

Dublin-West looks like 61% Yes, it is a 57% Yes according to tallies in Dublin Mid-West, a 100% tally in Tipperary-North says it will be a 58% Yes.

A final tally in Wicklow says turnout is as high as 39% and that the yes vote there will be 64%.

More results will come in now thick and fast and a final result showing the country has backed inserting Children’s Rights in the Constitution should be available in a couple of hours.

Journalist John Waters advocated for a No vote.

He says he feels if this referendum is passed today that the result could be challenged in the courts.
