The Taoiseach has corrected the Dáil record - and admitted he was in possession of letters between Alan Shatter and the Ceann Comhairle.

However, Enda Kenny has denied that his Fine Gael colleague had any role in shutting down a Dáil debate on alleged Garda malpractice lastweek week.

Deputy Shatter and his lawyers wrote to both the Taoiseach and Ceann Comhairle last month, trying to get Deputy Shatter's actions excluded from a Commission of Inquiry.

“Enda Kenny says he will publish those letters this afternoon - and has corrected the Dáil record:

The letter that was sent to me, to my department, on the eighth of December, from Gallagher-Shatter, contained a copy of the letter that was sent to the Ceann Comhairle,” Mr Kenny said.

“So from that point of view I want to correct the record there.”
