The Taoiseach Enda Kenny says he has asked the European Central Bank (ECB) president Mario Draghi to reconsider coming to the banking inquiry.

The bank says it will not attend hearings of the inquiry because it does not answer to national parliaments.

Mr Draghi met with Mr Kenny at a summit in Brussels last night.

And Mr Kenny says the Christmas break for the inquiry gives Mr Draghi plenty of time to change his mind.

Mr Kenny was called "a crawler" by Sinn Féin in the Dáil - after saying while he believes Mr Draghi should attend, he cannot be obliged to do so.

The inquiry got underway on Wednesday and saw expert Peter Nyberg and former Canadian civil servant Rob Wright give evidence.

Mr Nyberg told the inquiry he did not believe anything new would be learned, compared to what he found in a report in 2011.
