Taoiseach Micheál Martin has begun his week-long diplomatic mission to the United States today.
It is one of the most important weeks for US Irish relations in many years, with Micheál Martin starting his trip in Texas.
He has made the journey to the first stop of his St Patrick’s Day trip where he will meet the Republican Governor Greg Abbott ahead of his meeting with Donald Trump on Wednesday.
The Taoiseach is also due to make a speaking appearance at the South by South West festival to discuss how Irish innovators and creatives are making an impact on the world stage.
He will be interviewed on stage after attending a pop up Gaeltacht event at the festival.
This evening there is a St Patrick’s Day reception, which also marks 10 years since Ireland opened its consulate in Austin.

The Taoiseach also plans to meet a number of companies including Dell during his visit as he will stress the importance of Irish investment in the US.
Much of his trip will be built around that theme as he prepares to meet the tariff happy US President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
His goal this week is to convince President Trump that Ireland is of benefit to him and that the trade deficit between the two countries isn’t as bad as the US President thinks it is.
His rehearsal for that starts today.
The Taoiseach will be highlighting companies like Glanbia, which has over 20 US production facilities, GlenDimplex, with two plants in the US, Kerry Group, and Ryanair, who has invested $40 billion by buying from Boeing.
