The Taoiseach and almost 2/3 of the Cabinet will travel to Brussels today.
It is to prepare for our 6 month Presidency of the Union from next January.
But the row over the agreement to ease our debt burden is also likely to be raised.
The Taoiseach, Tánaiste as well as Ministers for Finance, Public Expenditure, Jobs, Social Protection, Communications, Environment, Agriculture, Transport and European Affairs will spend today in Brussels.
Commercial flights as well as the government jet will be used to get them there.
The Tánaiste and Taoiseach will not travel together on the advice of the Department of Defence.
While it is not formally on the agenda the agreement of June 29th to ease Irish bank debt burden will be raised according to Enda Kenny.
He told the Dáil last night “What I am interested in…is to get the best deal for the Irish people and the Irish taxpayer”.
“And I will say that very clearly during the course of face-to-face meetings with (EU Commission President) Barroso, and with the other leaders as I meet them” he added.
The delegation will meet with the full college of 27 EU Commissioners.
The message from the Taoiseach will be that our Presidency needs to be on jobs, growth and stability of the Euro.
