Investigations are continuing into whether a cross-border inquiry can be held into the movement of alleged sex abusers.

A so-called "scoping exercise" is underway to determine the extent of movement across the border.

It is believed a cross-border inquiry will only be held if it does not impact on any criminal prosecutions that are currently underway.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny says there is broad support for an inquiry, if it can be held.
