It comes after Germany declared that if the bailout fund – the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) – was used then conditions would have to apply.

Enda Kenny has also criticised what he called “the avalanche” of criticism of his handling of the situation surrounding bank debt last weekend.

German bailout praise

It comes on the same day as the German Foreign Minister hailed the Irish bailout programme as a ‘success story’.

Guido Westerwelle said it is an example that you can work your way out of a crisis “with discipline and hard work”.

Speaking in Berlin after meeting his German counterpart Eamon Gilmore said Ireland was determined to be the first struggling country to exit the bailout programme.

He says any new arrangement on our bank debt would not be the same as another bailout.
