The Taoiseach says the Government's new dementia plan will allow those affected to be treated in their own home with dignity and respect.
€27.5 million will be spent on the strategy between now and 2017 - with the funds going towards “intensive” home supports, more resources for local GPs and raising awareness of dementia and its stigma.
50,000 people in Ireland are living with dementia with that number expected to almost treble by 2041.
Enda Kenny says the strategy will allow those affected by dementia to remain in their own homes.
Primary Care Minister Kathleen Lynch says the new strategy will change lives "unimaginably" - and is long overdue.
