The Taoiseach says the government has not considered anything to do with child benefit.
It follows reports that an advisory group has recommended that the payment be cut by €40 per month per child.
This would bring payment received to €100.
Speaking on his way into Government Buildings this morning Enda Kenny said nothing has been considered yet.
He added that the Social Protection Minister Joan Burton will bring her views on the matter to Cabinet in due course.
Meanwhile the Agriculture Minister says the government needs to consider if it is fair for high income earners to get the same child benefit as lower income families.
Simon Coveney said the matter has yet to be discussed by the Cabinet.
However he believes child benefit should go to families who need it the most.
