There has been a broad political welcome to a proposal by the Taoiseach to form an all-island soccer team for charity. Enda Kenny outlined the proposal at a reconciliation through sport event in Armagh today.
Enda Kenny floated the idea this morning without warning to other politicians or the sporting bodies presents that included the Irish Football Association (IFA).
Mr. Kenny says the team could play England every year or every two years in Croke Park or the Aviva in Dublin and Wembley in London.
And the Taoiseach says funds raised could be used for children's hospitals in Belfast and Dublin.
The First Minister of Northern Ireland Peter Robinson says the proposal does not threaten the autonomy of the Football Association of Ireland or Irish Football Association.
And Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness also supports it, and would go even further.
The idea has been floated and now it is up to the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), IFA as well as The Football Association (FA) to see if it can happen.
