The Taoiseach has admitted that he needs to prove he will reform the Dail if the Seanad is to be abolished. Enda Kenny says the government will sign off on possible changes to Dáil rules and practices at a meeting tomorrow.
He was speaking at the launch of the official Fine Gael campaign for a 'Yes' vote in the referendum next month on abolishing the Seanad.
The Taoiseach says some of the changes to the rules of the Dáil will kick in as early as next week.
Meanwhile the Fianna Fail leader is challenging the Taoiseach to a debate on the referendum. The party is calling for a 'No' vote on October 4th.
It says the removal of the Upper House will only give the government more power.
Fianna Fail is to spend €80,000 as part of its campaign to retain and reform the Seanad which it launched today.
The party leader Micheal Martin is calling on Mr. Kenny to take part in public debates on the proposal.
