The Taoiseach says the recent return by Ireland to the bond market will not result in a roll-back of support to adjust the Irish bailout deal.

Enda Kenny was attending a 2-day summit of European Union leaders where jobs, growth and the Syrian conflict topped the agenda.

Speaking to reporters in Brussels the Taoiseach says there is no sign of anyone rolling back on the commitment to help Ireland.

"I have detected no sign of anybody rowing back on commitments already made" he said. "We've been at pains to say that because we have done so much to help ourselves, that the cooperation commitment entered into on Europe will be honoured in full and I expect that to happen" he added.

Common position sought on Syria

Meanwhile the EU is to seek "a common position" at talks in Dublin next week on whether to lift an arms embargo to supply weapons to the Syrian opposition. Leaders meeting in Brussels discussed calls from Britain and France to abandon the embargo.

Both London and Paris warned they were ready to break ranks with their EU partners to supply weapons to the rebels. However there is concern among other governments that such a move could escalate the conflict.

The European Union president Herman Van Rompuy said it was agreed that foreign ministers would assess the situation as a matter of priority at the Dublin talks.

The Taoiseach also gave an outline to what else was discussed at the summit.
