In his end of year briefing with journalists, Enda Kenny promised that the referendum on the abolition of the Seanad would go ahead next year.
Enda Kenny says a number of other votes on other issues could be held on the same day - that would all depend on what the constitutional convention comes back with.
And An Taoiseach has vowed to live up to his pre election promise and actually go out on the doorsteps and campaign for the abolition of the Seanad.
But the Taoiseach could be facing a battle.
Apart from the fact that a large number of former politicians are campaigning to keep the Seanad, even within the Government there will be voices who oppose it's abolition.
