The Taoiseach will express Ireland’s “deep concern” about the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Lebanon in a meeting with the country’s prime minister today.
Prime Minister Najib Mikati is due to meet with the Taoiseach Simon Harris at Government Buildings later this afternoon.
Taoiseach Simon Harris will use the meeting to express the Irish people’s sympathies on the “loss of life and the level of destruction taking place” in Lebanon as Israel continues to bombard the country.
A Government spokesperson said he will also express his deep concern about the deteriorating security and humanitarian in Lebanon – particularly the ongoing attacks on civilians in densely populated areas in the country.
They said Mr Harris would also highlight continuing concerns for the safety of UNIFIL peacekeepers in the country.
Mr Mikati is travelling to Ireland specifically for the meeting after attending an international conference in Paris hosted by President Macron in support of Lebanon's people and sovereignty.
The Tánaiste Micheál Martin attended the conference in Paris where he announced an extra €2 million in aid for the country.
The funding brings Ireland’s support for Lebanon this year to €7 million.
