Taxi fares set to increase from next year

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has approved an increase to taxi fares.

The NTA board met Friday to consider fares review and a proposal was presented.

The board approved the proposed increase which will see fares go up by an average of 3.22%.

This is to take effect from February 1st 2018.

The changes will see the maximum fare go from an initial standard charge - between 8.00am and 8.00pm - of €3.60 to €3.80.

While a premium charge will increase from €4.00 to €4.20. This charge is applicable from 8.00pm to 8.00am, on Sundays and bank holidays.

Standard Tariff A fares are being increased from €1.10 per km to €1.14 per km - while premium Tariff A fares are increasing from €1.40 per km to €1.45 per km.

Tariff B fares, which measure journeys over 15kms, are also being increased.
