Taylor Swift has endorsed Kamala Harris after watching last night’s US Presidential debate.

The superstar posted a picture of herself and her cat on Instagram - a reference to Republican JD Vance’s disparaging remarks about “childless cat ladies”.

Swift said she was concerned about misinformation after the Trump campaign used AI generated images of her to falsely claim he had her endorsement.

"I'm voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” she wrote.

"I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.

"I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate Tim Walz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman's right to her own body for decades."

Last night’s debate between the two candidates in Philadelphia was a contentious affair with Mr Trump describing Ms Harris as “the worst vice-president in the history of our country”.

The Democratic candidate used the debate to promise that she would expand abortion rights after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade.

“I pledge to you, when Congress passes a bill to put back in place the protections of Roe v Wade, as president of the United States, I will proudly sign it into law,” she said.

Mr Trump by contrast, praised the court’s “great courage” for overturning the ban.

On foreign policy, Ms Harris said she supported Israel’s “right to defend itself” but said she also supported Palestinians’ “security, self determination and dignity”.

Mr Trump said had he remained in office then he would have prevented both the wars in Gaza and Ukraine.

“If I were president, it would have never started,” he said.

“If I were President, Russia would have never, ever. I know Putin very well.

“He would have never –and there was no threat of it either, by the way, for four years – have gone into Ukraine.”

Mr Trump also used the debate to falsely claim that Haitian immigrants in Ohio are eating pets as he pledged to get tough on immigration.

“They’re eating the dogs. The people that came in, they’re eating the cats,” he said.

“They’re eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what’s happening in our country, and it’s a shame.”

The remarks led US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to remark that the Republican was “doubling down on the crazy uncle vibe”.
