A son of a TD has been jailed for nearly 2 years for a a number of serious motoring offences due to a high-speed chase with gardaí. Peter Fleming is son of Fianna Fail TD Sean Fleming.

The 22-year-old was also banned from driving for 4 years.

He has admitted charges of dangerous driving, drink-driving, hit and run, stealing a car, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

The court heard he drove through a pedestrian crossing at high speed and crossed over 3 lanes of traffic as he was pursued by gardai.

Presiding judge Eugene O'Kelly described it as the "very worst case of dangerous driving" ever to come before the court.
