A teenage boy is being treated in hospital this morning after a serious assault in Sligo town.

Gardaí say it happened at around 7:10pm outside a premises on the Mailcoach Road in the town.

The teen was taken to Sligo University Hospital; however, he has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The scene remains sealed off this morning, while investigators carry out a technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone with video footage of the assault as well as drivers who were in the area between 6:45pm and 7:15pm and may have dash-cam footage.
