Two teenage boys have died after a “serious incident” at a house in Sheffield.
Six children, ranging in age from seven months to 14-years-old, were taken to hospital after emergency services were called to the house at 7:30am this morning.
Police said the two eldest, aged 13 and 14-years-old, have since died.
The cause of death has not been established and a postmortem is due to be carried out.
A 37-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident.
Police said family members have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Palmer said: “Detectives and specialist officers remain in the Gregg House Road area carrying out enquiries and we are working hard to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.
“We will remain in the area this afternoon and into the evening carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance.
“I appreciate the events of this morning have caused concern locally but I’d like to reassure you that there is no wider risk to the community.”
The house is located around 100 metres from a nearby school; however, [police are assuring the public that it is not connected to the incident.
The area has been cordoned off and there will be a “significant police presence at the scene throughout the day.”
