A teenage girl has died in a tractor crash in County Cavan.

Gardaí said the girl, aged in her late teens died after the tractor collided with a ditch on the L2514 at Loughduff at around 11pm last night.

A teenage boy who was driving the tractor was uninjured.

It is the second road death reported last night. A man in his 80s was killed after he was hit by a car in County Louth at around 7:55pm last night.

The girl’s body has been removed to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem is due to take place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to drivers who were in the area and between 10.45pm and 11.15pm and may have camera footage.
