A teenager has been arrested after a man was violently attacked in Cavan Town. 

Shortly before midnight on Valentine’s Day, the man, who was in his 20s, was attacked on Main Street. 

He was taken first to Cavan General Hospital and then transferred to the Beaumont in Dublin where his condition is understood to be serious. 

A 17-year-old has since been arrested and is currently detained at a Garda Station in the Louth/Cavan/Monaghan Division.

Anyone who witnessed the attack has been asked to contact Cavan Garda Station.
