A teenage boy is due before court in Co. Offaly this morning, charged in connection with a serious assault.

A man in his 50s remains in a serious condition in hospital after he sustained head injuries when he was attacked on the Main St. in Birr on Monday.

He was air-lifted to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he is still being treated.

A man (17) is expected to appear before Tullamore District Court in relation to the incident.
