A teenage boy is in a critical condition in hospital this evening after a swimming accident in North County Cork.

He was swimming in the River Blackwater near the village of Knocknagree when he got into difficult at about 6 o'clock this evening.

The teenager was rushed to hospital and is being treated for his injuries - which are believed to be life-threatening.
