A teenager has died, and several others are injured, following a two-vehicle collision in Co Cork overnight.
Gardaí report the crash happened around 1am on the M8 at Ballybeg in Mitchelstown.
The teenage boy, a passenger in one of the cars, was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, another teenage boy, and three other passengers, a make adult teenager and a boy and girl aged in their teens, were taken to Cork University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, a woman in her 30s, was also taken to Cork University Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries.
It is reported Gardaí interacted with the car before the collision, and the incident has been referred to GSOC.
The road of the crash remains closed this morning for technical examination. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who were travelling in on the M8 near Mitchelstown at the time of the crash who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
