Gardaí are appealing for witnesses of a serious assault which occurred in Clondalkin in the early hours of this morning.
The male teenager sustained a number of injuries after being attack outside a nightclub.
He was taken from the scene to James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown by ambulance where his condition is described as critical.
Investigations are ongoing.
Dublin Mid-West TD Mark Ward says it was a busy night with Leaving Certificate results celebrations underway.
Speaking to Newstalk, he described the incident as "an absolute tragedy".
"No young person goes out on a night out to enjoy themselves to end up in hospital like that."
"It's absolutely devastating", he said.
After speaking to the community this morning, Deputy Ward said locals are concerned.
"A young person could go out on a night out and end up in hospital."
"I would encourage anyone with any information to contact the guards."
He has urged anyone who has information about a vicious assault there last night to contact Gardaí.
