A low temperature of almost minus six degrees was recorded overnight.
The weather station in Gurteen in County Tipperary recorded the coldest temperature overnight of minus 5.7 degrees.
A low of minus 4.9 degrees was recorded in Mullingar in County Westmeath, while Claremorris in County Mayo and Casement Aerodrome in Dublin recorded lows of minus four.
Hazardous conditions are being reported across the country this morning and schools will remain closed in many parts, while transport services also face disruption.
A Status Orange weather warning for low temperatures and ice is in place for 22 counties until 10am this morning.
A separate Status Orange low temperature and ice warning has been put in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Munster and Connacht from 6pm tonight until 11am Thursday morning.
A Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning for the entire country is also in place and will come back into effect upon the end of the higher Orange warnings until 12pm on Friday as well.
There are approximately 4,000 homes, farms and businesses still without power - mainly located in Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary.
Road users are being encouraged to drive with extreme caution after last night’s deep freeze.
