There has been a tenfold increase in the surrender rate at Dogs Trust so far this year.
The charity responsible for re-homing dogs has received a record number of surrendered dogs from members of the public since their opening four years ago.
Last Sunday alone, 21 dogs were surrendered, along with a wounded Springer Spaniel was dumped and abandoned in the car park.
Due to the high numbers of surrendered dogs the charity have been unable to offer places to pound dogs which are most at risk.
