Terence O'Rourke is set to be named today as the new Chair of the RTÉ Board later today.
The former KPMG managing director is the current ESB Chairman and also previously served on the board of The Irish Times.
He is also the former chairman of Enterprise Ireland.
It is understood his appointment has the support of all three coalition party leaders.
Government approval will be sought today for the appointment of a new Chair and additional boards members, Media Minister Catherine Martin has said.
Minister Martin said she will seek to meet the new Chair and Director-General Kevin Bakhurst in the coming days.
Former Chair Siún Ní Raghallaigh resigned after Minister Martin refused to express confidence in her last month.
There are also calls for Minister Martin to correct Dáil statements she made about Ms Ní Raghallaigh.
In a statement yesterday, Ms Ní Raghallaigh accused Minister Martin of taking a "hands off approach" with the broadcaster and trying to "traduce" her reputation.
In response, Minister Martin said she outlined her and the Department's position regarding Ms Ní Raghallaigh's resignation during her appearance at the Oireachtas Media Committee last week.
"Last week, I outlined in detail the position of the Department officials and I on this matter," the Minister said in a statement.
"This included taking questions at a three and a half hour meeting of the Joint Oireachtas Committee and doing statements in the Dáil.
"Any Minister needs to rely on getting clear, timely and accurate information from the Chair of a State body.
"This is particularly important at such a challenging time in RTÉ's history," she added.
