A meat-based product made in Northern Ireland has been withdrawn from Tesco supermarket shelves. It comes after after tests found the Simply Roast Meatloaf contained up to 5% horsemeat.

Meanwhile research by Consumer group Which? has revealed that British consumers have changed their shopping habits since the scandal broke and overall trust in the food industry is down by a quarter.

The 600 gramme packs were made between October last year and January this year at Eurostock in Craigavon, Co Armagh.

Tesco Group Technical Director is Tim Smith "Tests on 15 other lines from the same manufacturing site were clear of horsemeat" he said. "Our investigation to thoroughly understand the source of the contamination has started and we will complete our investigation before deciding whether to continue using the supplier".

"As part of our new DNA testing programme we have now tested more than 500 products identified as being most at risk of containing horsemeat. This is the fourth Tesco-branded product to have tested positive. We are very sorry that we have had a further product which has failed to meet the high standards we and our customers expect" he added.
