Tesco and ESB are to roll out 52 electric vehicle charging points across 18 counties nationwide.
The dual outlet chargers will be placed in Tesco car parks around the country and will facilitate two vehicles at a time.
They will be installed from early next year with completion expected by Autumn.
ESB will supply, install and operate the 22kW charge points which will be capable of providing up to 145km of driving range in 60 minutes.
Customers can find their nearest charge point using a map provided by the ESB.
There are currently over 15,000 electric vehicles on Irish roads.
There was an increase of 142% in newly-registered vehicles this year, with sales expected to rise again in 2020.
Kari Daniels, CEO of Tesco Ireland said she recognises that a growing number of their customers are using electric vehicles.
She said: "With all our electricity already coming from renewable sources across our network we want to support our customers with convenience-based charging.
"Partnering with ESB installing these charging sites nationwide will help the Government’s Climate Action Plan and our aim as a business to become a zero-carbon retailer by 2050.”
Marguerite Sayers, Director of Customer Solutions of ESB Ireland said: “The electrification of transport is a key element of our Brighter Future Strategy and our partnership with Tesco Ireland reaffirms our commitment to this.
"Since 2010, we have rolled out a nationwide public EV charging network, with plans to launch our first high-powered charging hubs in 2020, with support from the Irish Government’s Climate Action Fund."
