On August 27, Mitt Romney announced himself to the US public at the Republican Party Convention as the man who would take back the White House from the Democrats by winning an election on a platform of reducing the size of government and encouraging free enterprise.

Three weeks later, Romney’s campaign is a bit of a mess as one ill-advised comment after another makes him seem completely out-of-touch with ordinary Americans.
