The Offline Glass, currently used a Brazilian bar called Salve Jorge, has a chunk taken out of its base which means it only stands upright when placed on a mobile phone.

The Telegraph spoke to one of the managers of the bar, who said their intention was to encourage customers to “turn off the online world, chat with friends and live in the reality around them, at least for a few hours”.

Several different kinds of phone are catered for, but not all glasses in the bar have the special design.

Maybe it will encourage some people to stick the phone on silent for the evening, or to put off getting to the next level of Angry Birds until the bus home.
