Three bookstore owners and book lovers (naturally) came together to discuss the best books to buy for Christmas on The Green Room.
Among the novels selected were Shotgun Love Songs, a sleeper hit for Dubray Bookshop, Only Ever Yours, the debut novel by Louise O Neill and Lila By Marilynne Robinson.
An overwhelming bestseller for Dublin and Dubray Bookshops has been the Little Book of Mindfulness by Tiddy Rowan, outselling every other book “by a mile.”
For younger readers, Raven bookstore owner Louisa Cameron chose The Christmas Truce by Hilary Robinson and The Snow Merchant written by Sam Gayton with illustrations by Chris Riddell
Booker winner Richard Flanagan’s The Narrow Road to The Deep North has been selling well says Gutterbookshop owner Bob Johnston who also recommended David Nicholls latest novel US.
Among the non-fiction choices recommended by the three bibliophiles were The Marshmallow Test by Walter Mischel, The Moth, a collection of true stories told live on stage and edited by Catherine Burns and The Wild Truth by Carinne McCandless.
Picture books and coffee table photobooks are always a good seller at Christmas and this year, our three literary experts recommended Astronaut Chris Hadfield’s new book You Are Here, Doorstep Wilderness by Paul Hughes and Joe Curtis’ book Blackrock.
