A woman remains in Garda custody this evening in connection with an apparent fatal stabbing in Dublin.

A 36-year-old man has died following the incident in the Phibsboro area at about 10.30pm last night.

The man, who was found to have stab wounds, was taken from the scene by ambulance to The Mater Hospital where he died in the early hours of this morning.

The Pro Life Campaign has hit out against the latest opinion poll on Ireland's abortion laws.

The group has criticised the questioning in a Millward Brown survey commissioned by the Sunday Independent - which found a majority of people support the repeal of the eight amendment.

The pro life organisation says that question should have quoted the amendment in full.

Investigations have been launched into four separate fatal collisions north and south of the Border.

Four people have lost their lives in the last 24 hours in crashes in counties Mayo, Meath and Tyrone.

In Meath a pedestrian suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a car on the N2 between Balrath and Slane in the early hours of this morning.

In Tyrone a man has been arrested following a fatal collision involving a lorry and a van on the Melmount Road in Strabane.

Elsewhere in Cookstown a woman in her 50s has died as a result of a single vehicle crash at around 2.30 this morning.

Meanwhile in Co Mayo last night, a man in his 30s was fatally injured after the car he was driving hit a fence on the N5 at Knockanour in Castlebar.
