A man has appeared in court in Glasgow charged with the murder of Irish student Karen Buckley

Alexander Pacteau (21) from Glasgow appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court. He is charged with the murder of Ms Buckley, and with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody. It is expected he will appear again next week for a further hearing.

Hundreds of mourners attended a vigil for Ms Buckley in Glasgow city centre's George Square, with many laying flowers and candles, as well as cards and messages.

Trinity College magazine publishes irreverent rape story ahead of its annual ball

Miscellany, a student magazine produced by students of Trinity College Dublin, has apologised after it published an anonymous article that reportedly revealed how two men sneaked into the Trinity ball and raped a female student.

The article, anonymously written in a tongue-in-cheek style, details how the pair of male students disguised themselves as paramedics in an attempt to get past college security without tickets to the ball, an annual partied billed by the college’s student union as Europe’s largest private party.
