Lucinda Creighton says Irish Water is a 'fudge' and an 'abdication'

Lucinda Creighton says she doesn't want to see the 'parish pump' style of Irish politics continue any longer.

The former Fine Gael junior minister this week launched her new political party Renua Ireland.

She spoke to Shane Coleman on today's Sunday Show, and explained that Renua would offer the Irish electorate a new type of politics not governed by party whips.

Report from 2008 showed 22 men owed €25.5bn to their banks

A confidential report from 2008 into Ireland's banks shows that just 22 men owed up to €25.5bn to their banks. The names include Sean Quinn, Johnny Ronan, Denis O'Brien and Sean Dunne.

According to the Sunday Business Post, the PwC report also estimated that banks would lose no more than €10.6bn at worst, though this was qualified by saying accuracy was dependent on whether the banks were truthful.

Almost three-quarters in favour of same-sex marriage, says latest poll

Gay rights' groups have welcomed the latest opinion poll which shows that nearly three-quarters of us are now in favour of same-sex marriage.

The country is expected to go to the polls on May 22 when they'll be asked to vote in the marriage equality referendum.

At least 50 dead as bus plunges off cliff in Brazil

A tour bus plunged almost 400m into a wooded ravine in southern Brazil after the driver reportedly lost control on a bend, killing at least 50 people.

About 50 passengers were supposed to be travelling on the bus, but authorities said they believe the number was even higher.

Mothers and Fathers Matter group criticise new adoption bill

A group says it's opposing the Children and Family Relationships Bill because it implies there's nothing unique about a mother's love.

The new legislation will allow the adoption of children by married couples or single people, regardless of their sexual orientation.

The Bill has now passed all stages of the Dáil, and will go on to be debated in the Seanad.
