The Guinness Storehouse in Dublin is the most popular place to visit in Ireland. It saw 1,157,000 visitors pass through its doors in 2013 - an increase of 70,000 visitors on 2012.

Fáilte Ireland has released its list of best visitor attractions in the country - with Dublin Zoo and the Cliffs of Moher in Clare coming second and third most popular fee-paying attractions.

Dublin Zoo saw its visitors pass 1 million

Dublin Zoo got just over 1 million visitors and the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience had a 10% boost in visitor numbers thanks to 960,000 paying visitors.

Fota Wildlife Park, Blarney Castle and Tayto Park are just some of the others making up the top 10.

The National Gallery of Ireland continues to lead the list of free places to visit; while the Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons in Co. Kildare was a significant new entry to the top free places to visit - entering the top 10 listing at number five thanks to the interest of 350,000 visitors in 2013.

Overall, the combined top 10 fee-paying attractions in 2013 saw a 5% increase in visitors on the previous year's top ten performance. The combined top 10 free attractions experienced a 7% jump in visitors compared to 2012.

The Minister for Tourism Leo Varadkar said "It's good to see visitor numbers growing at so many of our key attractions, and it's further proof that Irish tourism is going from strength to strength".

The Guinness Storehouse has seen visitors like Queen Elizabeth II and actor Tom Cruise

"Visitors like to have a wide range of things to see and do, and Ireland has some fantastic free and paid attractions. That’s why the Government continues to invest in new attractions and in refreshing established ones" he added.

While the CEO of Fáilte Ireland, Shaun Quinn, said "Today's research provides another positive piece of news for tourism as our visitor attractions are quite clearly experiencing the same growth that we are seeing right across the tourism sector".
