Topless Page 3 girls have disappeared from The Irish Sun. The paper says it has phased out the traditional page three girl quietly over the past few weeks after feedback from readers.

The new editor of The Sun in Britain David Dinsmore recently said he intended to keep publishing topless pictures. This is despite murmurs from Rupert Murdoch that he was considering ditching the feature.

A campaign entitled 'No More Page 3' is also underway in Britain. The website which includes a petition is asking the UK editor of The Sun to "drop the bare boobs" from the paper.

The petition is believed to have more than 110,000 signatures.

The Irish Sun sold an average of 63,743 copies a day in Ireland in June, which is down from 72,000 in the same month in 2012.

The Dublin office has reportedly received a few phone calls inquiring about the change, but only one reader is understood to have demanded its return.

Paul Clarkson is editor of The Irish Sun. He says it is simply a case of Irish readers wanting different things.
