Two men have been jailed for a combined total of 26 and-a-half-years after they were convicted of raping a teenage girl.

Patrick ‘PJ’ Kelly and Joseph Byrne, both of Corra Choill Park, Prosperous, County Kildare, were described by the now 21-year-old woman as “the monsters in her dreams.”

On a date in 2020, PJ Kelly lured the then 16-year-old girl out to meet him by claiming he was going to take his own life.

His neighbour, Joseph Byrne, was with him - something she was not expecting.

The jury heard distressing details of how the men took turns raping her in various locations in Kildare town, including a car, Byrne’s home and some fields.

She told Gardaí she felt like a “rag doll” and when she asked Kelly why he had allowed Byrne to do that to her, he told her he shares all his girls with Joe.

She said she felt weak, scared and betrayed.

After hearing her evidence, Kelly pleaded guilty to three counts of rape and was jailed today for 11-years and six months.

Byrne was convicted by a jury and jailed for 15-years.

In her victim impact statement, she described them as monsters and said she was happy she got justice in the end.
