Freddy VS Jason. Alien VS Predator. Mega Shark VS Giant Octopus. Throughout the ages, there's been plenty of cinematic, scary monster smack-downs, but this next one seems to be the one most out of left-field.

Despite both franchises being relatively dormant for a decade, the ghosts of both The Ring and The Grudge franchises are coming out of scary retirement, to apparently fight for after-life dominance.

The teaser trailer for Sadako VS Kayako has just been released, but will probably be more enjoyable to those who speak fluent Japanese:

Set for release in Japan on June 18th, with an eye for a U.S. release sometime in October and nothing set in stone for Irish cinemas just yet, we probably shouldn't expect an English language remake any time soon.

Rings, the third U.S. entry in the franchise, is set for release this Halloween, while The Grudge was getting lined up for an American reboot as far back as 2014, but nothing has been reported on the series since.

Maybe if the ghostly head-to-head proves successful, we can look forward to deadly video tapes and crackly voiced pale children haunting our cinemas once more.

Although they'll have to go some way to explain how teenagers even know what a VHS is anymore...
