The Sun is expected to ask for a stay on an order to hand over documents to X-Factor judge Louis Walsh as part of his defamation action against the newspaper.
He is suing over an article in June last year about false reports to Gardaí by Leonard Watters that the music manager had sexually assaulted him in Dublin nightclub ‘Krystle’.
In a defamation action against The Sun Mr. Walsh alleges a journalist at the tabloid offered 24-year-old Mr. Watters money to go to Gardaí and make a complaint of sexual assault.
This is strenuously denied by publishers Newsgroup which admits the assault allegations are false but says it acted fairly and reasonably.
As part of his action Louis Walsh has been granted discovery of documents from The Sun and journalist Joanne McElgunn relating to her expenses and anything that might back his claim that money was offered.
Lawyers for The Sun indicated last week they may come back to court today to seek a stay on that discovery order.
Leonard Watters from Navan Co. Meath was jailed for 6 months after he admitted making two false reports to Gardaí about Mr. Walsh.
