The travel industry claims it's being unfairly treated as a "pariah" in taking action to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The government's due to produce a "green list" of countries that Irish people can go on holiday to without having to quarantine when they return home.

Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan says he fears that many people are planning foreign trips, and is urging everyone to stay in Ireland.

The Irish Travel Agents Association say their industry has been the hardest hit by the Covid-19 travel restrictions.

Pat Dawson from the Irish Travel Agents Association doesn't believe the sector should be blamed for potential spikes of Covid-19:

“I think the travel industry is being seen as a Pariah in the sense that we are causing all the problems.

"But within the countries that are closed down, the cases are getting worse because the people of the company are not doing what the medical professionals are telling them to do.”

There are calls for just 3 or 4 countries to be added to the government's "green list" for international travel.

Pat Dawson from the Irish Travel Agents Association added that a cautious approach should be taken to the "air bridges" plan:

"There needs to be more clarity on it. You can't suddenly turn on a switch and say here we go today, and the in ten days time turn it off. It's very important that counties that the countries that are opened up are safe and well."
