Two policeman have been sentenced to jail for theft during a sting operation organised by other police; one for taking two pens in a pretend house raid.
The BBC reports that officers in Neath, Wales conducted an "intelligence-led integrity test," which involved the search of a house they claimed was linked to burglars. Though loaded with jewellery, Viagra, phones and over £20,000, Det Con Jason Evans was tempted by more unlikely bait - he removed two pens from a bedroom.
Another officer, Det Sgt Stephen Phillips, was filmed removing £240 from a coat pocket and £10 from a table.
Evans has been jailed for 12 weeks and Phillips for 22 weeks. Both have been suspended, facing a fast-track dismissal, and will likely lose their pensions.
Judge Bodfan Jenkins said of Evan's crime that "it was infinitesimal but the significance of the act far outweighs the cost."
