A lack of support for artists from the music industry has prompted singer Kate Nash to post photos on OnlyFans.

Ms Nash said she joined the adult subscription platform to highlight the challenges musicians are currently facing.

On Lunchtime Live, the Foundations singer described the music industry as "broken".

"There’s a cost-of-touring crisis across the culture in the UK but also I think it’s much more of a global issue in crisis," Ms Nash said.

"The music industry has failed artists - not just artists but the entire sector and everyone who works within music."

Ms Nash said she chose to post on the platform in order to make a statement.

"I’m selling pictures of my bum on OnlyFans because I knew it would garner a bit of attention and I wanted to make a political point because no one talked about this and we are in crisis," she said.

The singer said music companies such as Spotify and LiveNation are making profits while musicians are struggling financially.

She claimed that musicians earn about $0.0003 per stream on Spotify.

"Lots of bands are cancelling tours and shows because they cannot afford to go on them even if they’re driving the van themselves," she said.

Ms Nash said she has already seen how her OnlyFans move has sparked a conversation on the music industry.

"Every media outlet in the country right now is calling me now to talk about this," she said.

"I took my bum down to the Spotify building, to LiveNation yesterday and did a protest and they talked about me in the House of Commons because of my stance."

Costs

Ms Nash said posting photos on the platform has also helped her financially.

"I’m raising a lot of cash to subsidise my costs - this is actually working for me," she said.

"It’s relieved me of a lot of financial strain."

Ms Nash said she will continue to raise awareness about the challenges musicians are facing.

"I want to see how far we can take this," she said.

"Someone needs to stand up to these millionaires and tell them that we’re not afraid of them."

She said if the music industry continues like this, it will "collapse".

Kate Nash will play Dublin's The Academy on Wednesday December 18th.
