An Irish pianist has said timing and luck has seen his debut piece take off globally.
Jamie Duffy from Co Monaghan posted a video on TikTok one night while studying politics in college.
'Solas' was the most successful debut song on streaming services by an Irish artist since 'Take Me To Church' by Hozier, with more than 60 million plays on Spotify.
The song also went to number one in The Netherlands and Kazakhstan.
The 22-year-old, who cites Enya as one of his main influences, told Moncrieff a musical career was not in his plans.
"It's hard to comprehend sometimes, but I'm having a good time," he said.
"60 million streams, and that's just the debut song.
"That doesn't really happen for your first song, so the fact that it has is hard to comprehend".
Mr Duffy said he comes from a very musical family and background, with his parents and grandparents being involved in showbands.
"I never thought of it as a career in any sense until I went to university, put a song up one night while studying politics," he said.
"The next morning everything changed.
"It literally happened overnight; I would say if you were trying to replicate that it would be impossible.
"It just worked, it clicked - I woke up and it just had a few million views.
"I was clueless to the industry; it took me about three months until I actually thought, 'Let's actually go to a studio and record the song and put it out'.
"There's a little lull period that the song was just existing online".
'It struck a chord'
Mr Duffy said he believes it was down to timing and luck.
"I think with the algorithms and everything there's a lot of luck involved, but also I think it just had a special little moment," he said.
"I think, pardon the pun, it struck a chord with a lot of people," he added.
Mr Duffy said his dream of being a journalist after university has been "parked for a while."
