The father of a murdered Dubliner is pleading with people to stop withholding information that could solve the crime.
It comes just over 12 years after Ken Fetherston's body was found in the Dublin mountains.
The 26-year-old, from Tallaght in Dublin, worked as a coach driver and mechanic and a had three-year-old daughter.
He disappeared in September 2009 and his remains were found four months later in the Dublin Mountains.
His father, Brian, remembers that time well.
“The remains of a body were found in the mountains,” he said. “We were told there was a possibility it was Ken but there wasn’t a huge amount left of him.
“Another couple of days went by and Ken was identified.”
A post-mortem examination concluded he was stabbed to death.
No one has ever been charged in connection with the unsolved crime and a cold case began two years ago – but Brian believes he knows who was responsible.
“When Ken was getting into the motor trade, he got involved with individuals and he loaned out quite a lot of money,” he said.
“When he insisted on getting a return on his money or having the money repaid straight away, that is when he was murdered.”
He's pleading with people to help to solve the crime.
“The people withholding information, they are preventing the completion of this jigsaw puzzle,” he said.
“There is no reason to withhold information. These guys, they are only scum. There’s no reason to be afraid of them.
“So come forward, tell the Gardaí what it is you know and they will then decide whether it is of use to them or not. There is a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of these guys so it could be a nice little earner for somebody.”
He said there are up to 20 people who would know a lot of the details about what happened.
“Whatever information they have, pass it on to the Gardaí. It may seem insignificant to them but with every puzzle it only takes one small little piece to get the whole jigsaw puzzle together.
“The individuals themselves know that I know who they are. I’m not afraid of them so I don’t see why anybody else should be.”
Brian's confident the crime will eventually be solved – but he warned that he is now turn 68-years-old and is “running out of time”.
