US President Joe Biden has formally announced plan to run for a second term.

Already the oldest US president in history, if successful, he would be 86 at the end of a second term.

In a video message, the US President said: “Freedom, personal freedom, is fundamental to who we are as Americans”.

Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours.

“There's nothing more important. Nothing more sacred.

“That's been the work of my first term: To fight for our Democracy. This shouldn't be a red or blue issue.”

“This is our moment … Let's finish this job, I know we can.

“Because this is the United States of America – and there's nothing we can't do if we do it together.”
