A rare advert featuring U2 members Bono and Adam Clayton has been found in a shed in Co Wexford.
Hot Press writer Jackie Hayden, who has previously worked in advertising, recently came across the old recording.
The advert is about 30 seconds long and starts with an instrumental of 'New Year's Day', before a voiceover from the bandmates.
Bono introduces himself saying: "Hello there, this is Bono from U2" - before Adam adds: "And this is Adam. We’d just like to remind you that the NDC Milk Run takes place on Sunday, March 20th".
Bono then chimes back in with: "In aid of the Mental Health Association of Ireland - this is a worthy cause, so why not put the date in your diary now?
"Sunday, March 20th for the NDC Milk Run," he added.
Jackie told Moncrieff how this all came about.
"I was working actually for a PR company, and one of their clients was the NDC - the National Dairy Council," he explained.
"I think they were planning a campaign to boost publicity for the Milk Run.
"This recording was done with U2 on the 21st of January [in] 1983 - so that's what I was doing back then.
"It was a huge thing at the time; it was an annual event that would have taken place in various venues all over the country - with a fairly big turnout in places like the Phoenix Park in Dublin and elsewhere.
"That particular year it was in aid of the Mental Health Association of Ireland, so I think that plus the fact that they were going to get some national publicity may be what swung it for Bono and Adam.
"They were very, very good - they were very cooperative, very easy to work with.
"I knew them quite well at the time, so it was all fairly smooth sailing".
Jackie said the advert did go out on radio stations at the time.
"It was actually used to advertise the Milk Run, to encourage people perhaps to sign up in their locality or to turn up on the day and take part in it," he said.
"It was something that certainly got broadcast, no doubt about that".
He said the band would have been just about to release their 'War' album.
"In December, which is the month prior to doing this commercial, they'd just finished an Irish tour with three sell-out gigs at the SFX in Dublin.
"In January, when all this was going on, they were on 'Top of the Pops' doing the new single 'New Year's Day'.
"Then they were off on a UK tour, presumably to promote 'War', which came out as their new album in February '83".
Jackie said he will now give the tape to his solicitor.
"There probably weren't any more than maybe six copies made at the time," he said.
"To me, it's fascinating that it's been in my shed for 25 years, but I haven't listened to it for 40 years".
