The Road Safety Authority has described this weekend as one of the worst on Irish roads this year.
Seven people have been killed in four separate incidents since Thursday.
A ten-year old girl and three women - all from one extended family - died instantly when their car collided with a 4x4 vehicle in Co. Westmeath yesterday morning.
An 84 year old man was killed at around midday yesterday following a crash in Co Monaghan. The man’s car is believed to have collided with an oncoming car. The driver of the other car was uninjured.
An 18 year old man died in a single vehicle crash early on Saturday morning near Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.
And on Thursday an eight year old girl died in a collision in Roscarberry, County Cork. The girl’s mother remains in critical condition in Cork University Hospital.
92 lives have been lost on Irish roads so far this year.
The Transport Minister Leo Varadkar is calling on people to remain vigilant and stay safe.
“I really would appeal to people using to take care and drive as safely as they can. Accidents on the roads happen largely down to driver behaviour, rather than road conditions or vehicle issues and really I’d as people to take care.”
