Final preparations are in full swing in Mullingar ahead of the homecoming celebration for boxer John-Joe Nevin.

The Olympic silver medal winner will be driven through the town on an open-top bus along with another local showjumper Joseph Murphy.

The bunting is out and the stage is in place here in Cusack Park where John Joe Nevin and fellow Olympian Joseph Murphy will arrive around 7:30pm this evening.

There will be live music as part of the celebrations but first the silver medal winning boxer will be paraded through the streets of Mullingar on the open-top bus led by the town band and members of Cavan Boxing Club where Nevin trains.

As many as 10,000 people are expected to turn out in Mullingar this evening to welcome the boxer home.

Sean Lynch is Director of Mullingar Arts Centre.

He is involved in organising the reception tonight.
